15. Week 2 - Drawing and Painting
4m 54s
We are going to continue working with the same basic strokes as last week.
I can hear you saying 'Come on Joha! I get basic strokes are important, but they are sort of lame, can we move on? I've been there, and I've thoutht the same. Belive me, I feel you. You are wondering: 'Why do I need to do so many days of basic strokes, isn't this just overkilling!?
No, it's not. Listen: Last week we focused on brush control, so this week you will focus on muscle memory. I want you to be able to draw the strokes by yourself like a pro. Why? Well, let me tell you: being able to draw strokes by yourself is the first step towards drawing letters. These basic strokes become letters. You are going to take these strokes and put them together to form letters. But first you need to become a Master of Brush Control and develop your muscle memory.
Tust me. All my students eventually understand and appreciate the importance of these straokes. It is worth it to keep going, even if it feels tedious, it will pays back in time.
This week you will have just one video to watch. In this video I demonstrate in 3 days the procedure for this week. However you will work on one page a day. You will use tracing paper to practise. First, draw out all the strokes each day and then paint them. Practise as much as you can.
And remember to be kind to yourself. This is a course of Sign Painting, the idea is to have fun while developing a new skill or hobby. We are not changing the world, we are simply having fun and sharing knowledge. You mustn't be hard on yourself, just keep practising and keep that brush wet.
