Hi, Welcome to your Course Fundamentals of Brush Control!
I am Joha Muñe and I will be teaching you throughout this course. It means the world to me that you are here. It is my truly an honour to guide you through the basics of sign painting.
I decided to create this course because there are many people out there trying to learn sign painting but there are very few people teaching online and focusing on the very basics.
When I started learning sign painting there was nothing online, so I had to travel pretty far to learn the craft, which was quite expensive. I am so excited to be able to give these online courses and to help as many people as possible to get into signwriting in an easier and more affordable way.
Here is an interesting fact. In the past, sign painting apprentices would have to work under their masters for at least 5 years! They wouldn’t even be able to to pick up a brush until the end of their first year! They had to practise brush strokes for weeks before graduating to letterforms. Sign painting is a gradual process, it is especially important to remember this when you first start out.
One of the most common mistakes when learning sign painting is to rush into the process. I am affraid to inform you that in signwriting there are no shortcuts! The Fundamentals of Brush Control are essential for you to set solid foundations, acquire basic knowledge and develop your muscle memory. Many people choose to skip these steps but I am just glad you didn’t.
With tons of Love
Joha Muñe
